Break Out Leader Description.

Department: Children’s Ministry 

Target Group: Elementary Students (Grades 1st – 5th) 

Schedule: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the Month (9:00 AM Service) 

Reports To: Children’s Ministry Director / Elementary Coordinator

  2026/27 Serving Dates - 1st service at 9 am. 2nd, 3rd, 4th Sundays of the Month

  • Fall/Winter - Sundays, October: 11th, 18th, 25th and November: 8th, 15th

  • Winter/Spring - Starting Sunday, January 17th - May 23rd.

(Note: Serving on these specific Sundays provides consistency for the kids while offering weekends off each month.)

 Position Purpose

 The Elementary Breakout Leader plays a vital role in helping children process and personalize the weekly lesson. By sitting with your grade during large group, leading post-lesson activities, and engaging kids during check-out, you build intentional relationships, foster a safe environment, and help kids apply scripture to their daily lives.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Build Relationships: Welcome kids each week and foster a sense of belonging within a specific grade-level group (1st through 5th grade).

  • Oversee Large Group Zone: Sit directly with your assigned grade in their designated seating area during the initial 40-minute large group time to help kids focus, model worship and active participation, and manage behavior.

  • Facilitate Breakout Groups: Transition with your grade to your designated breakout area in the same room to lead post-lesson activities, including:

    • Guided Discussion: Asking open-ended questions to help kids reflect on the lesson.

    • Crafts & Weekly Challenges: Guiding kids through hands-on activities that highlight key concepts.

    • Worksheets & Coloring Sheets: Supporting learning through visual and interactive materials.

  • Lead Memory Verse Practice During Pick-Up: Keep children engaged and supervised in their breakout zone at the end of service while waiting for their names to be called for dismissal, using this window to practice and memorize the scripture of the day.

  • Maintain Safety & Structure: Keep children organized, safe, and accounted for throughout large group, breakout group, and the parent check-out process.

  • Encourage & Pray: Pray for the kids in your group regularly and encourage them in their spiritual growth.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • A heart for God and a desire to invest in the spiritual growth of children.

  • Friendly, patient, and encouraging demeanor with basic group management skills.

  • Reliable attendance for the scheduled serving dates to provide consistency for the kids.

  • Ability to engage kids using provided curriculum materials and simple conversation starters.

  • Completion of church volunteer screening, including a background check and child safety policy review.
