Bible Lesson: Paul and the Shipwreck: Acts 27:13–44; Matthew 28:16–20
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: This week, we taught that God helps us share the good news. Life can sometimes feel like an adventure story filled with unexpected storms, difficult moments, and twists we never saw coming. In our Bible story, Paul was caught in a terrible storm at sea that ended in a shipwreck, but even in the middle of it all, he continued sharing God’s message of hope. Paul trusted God, encouraged others, and reminded everyone that God was still in control. Through every calm and every storm, true story—God helps us share the good news.
Weekly Challenge Instructions: To reinforce this lesson, have your child create their own “message in a bottle.” In many adventure stories at sea, a message in a bottle is used to call for help, share important news, or guide someone to safety. Paul was like a human message in a bottle—sharing God’s hope even when things looked hopeless. Give your child an empty bottle (plastic works great), paper, and drawing or writing utensils. Have them write or draw why they love Jesus or a piece of good news they can share with others. For added fun, place sand or small shells inside the bottle. See a worked example here.
Keep your bottle somewhere as a visible reminder that no matter the calm or the storm, God can use us to share His story with others, because true story—God helps us share the good news!
FAMILY TIME: Use these questions to start a conversation with your children about this week’s lesson.
Scripture Questions:
After the storm hit them, what was Paul's message to everyone on the ship?
As everyone on the ship was waiting to run aground on the island, what did Paul urge them to do?
Read Matthew 28:19. What mission did Jesus give his disciples? How did he promise to help them?
